Maybelline Dr. Rescue SOS Balm Nail + Cuticle

Last month Jelena managed to get me Maybelline Dr. Rescue stick for nail and cuticle care and now I am ready to share my thoughts about it with you.

Maybelline Dr. Rescue SOS Balm Nail + Cuticle is a nail and cuticle care stick. Promo materials stated that it contains jojoba oil, which is why I wanted to try it, but can't find it on the actual ingredients list. The ingredients aren't that great. There are many emollients, but very few true moisturizers. Emollients just give temporary smoothness to skin and there aren't enough nourishing substances so, despite daily use, my skin around nails stayed dry. The only positive effect I have noticed is that my eponychium got tighter and less visible. Since this is a stick balm, it is easy to put it on areas you want to without getting all messy and greasy. After massaging it into skin, you will be left with hardly noticeable, silky layer on your skin. Since it has occlusive substances high on the ingredients list I think this product could be used after a humectant in order to keep that moisture in.

Sastojci/Ingredients: Octylododecanol, Polybutene, Petrolatum, Isopropyl Myristate, Polyethylene, Ozokerite, Diisostearyl Malate, Butyrospremum Parkii Butter / Shea Butter, Candelilla Cera / Candelilla Wax, Vp/Hexadesane Copolymer, Camphor, Parfum/Fragrance, Menthol, Pentaerythrityl, Tetra-Di-T-Butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Tocopherol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Citral, Limonene, Cl42090 / Blue 1 Lake.

Miris me podseća na slatke mentol žvake.

Packaging reminds me of lip balm bullet and it is practical for pocket or purse. Cap and base orientation is a bit counterintuitive to me - the wider part, which I'd expect to be base, is actually the cap, and the tapered end is the base. Product itself is firm, creamy and not greasy. Smell reminds me of sweet peppermint chewing gum. There is 5 grams of product in one bullet. Since this is a relatively useless product, I'd suggest you keep the money you'd spend on it, add a bit more and get Trind cuticle balm or something similar to Hemel for nails.

    1. Da, šteta što sam proizvod nije delotvorniji.

  2. It's interesting, I have no idea what true moisturizers are?
But I for sure have noticed that products containing water or oils only work better for me than balms etc. that either are wax like or vaseline like...
Have you any thought on that..?

    1. True moisturizers are substances that bring moisture, that don't just prevent existing moisture from escaping.
I like waxy products, but only if they also contain jojoba oil. Otherwise I can only use them after a moisturizer, to stop that moisture from evaporating.

    2. Thanks for your reply - but can you give me examples of true moisturizers?
You see I'm trying to figure out why products containing water or oils only work better for me than balms etc. that either are wax like or vaseline like...

    3. Well, the common ones in cosmetics are glycerin, urea, aloe vera, allantoin... If you use wax or petrolatum-based products, make sure they contain some of those and/or jojoba and avocado oils.

    4. OK, thank you so much Vedrana. So I was mislead in thinking the water could have something to do with it - and thanks for the tips too....

    5. Well water certainly has everything to do with it, I just forgot to mention it. :D

    1. I ja ih volim.

  4. I never used such kind of products, I mean in stick form. I like the idea of the packaging, because those moisturizers that are put in a usual polish bottle are very hard to use after a while, when the bottle start to get empty. But regardless of this, I think this winter (because this is the period when I really need a deep cuticle moisturizer) I am going to choose Trind, that I saw here on your blog!

    1. Trind is always a good choice. And they have several different moisturizing products. :D

A miris me podseca na sladoled citroni :)
